Representatives Trahan and Pappas Tour Communities Along the Merrimack River to Highlight Critical Need for Federal Investments
Representatives Lori Trahan (MA-03) and Chris Pappas (NH-01) led a dual city tour along the Merrimack River to highlight the need for federal support in updating the river’s wastewater infrastructure. Along with Acting Administrator for EPA Region 1 Deborah Szaro, and other state and local officials, the representatives toured the Manchester Wastewater Treatment Facility and went on to Lowell to hear from community leaders and stakeholders about and to see the concerns firsthand.

Stepping Stones Family Services Wins Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union’s Nonprofit Day Campaign
Stepping Stones Family Services is the winner of Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union’s National Nonprofit Day Campaign. The organization received a $2,019 donation as the winning prize.
Stepping Stones Family Services (SSFS), located in Haverhill, Mass., assists mothers and low-income families by providing free child care items, including diapers, wipes, clothing and formula. Additionally, they offer programs to help mothers with job training, resume writing, nutrition education, tutoring services and enrollment in other community-based services.
Jaffarian Volvo Toyota Collects School Supplies for Students Residing at the Emmaus Family Shelter
For the fourth year in a row, the Jaffarian Volvo Toyota staff and customers collected school supplies for kindergarten through high school students residing at the Emmaus Family Shelter. Since 1985, Emmaus, located in Haverhill, has helped more than 30,000 children and adults out of homelessness and toward self-sufficiency. This past year alone, Emmaus has helped 2,478 people, including 1,238 children through its shelters and housing programs.

Windrush Farm Announces J Field Foundation Scholarship for Individuals with Acquired Brain Injury
Windrush Farm Therapeutic Equitation announced a new scholarship for the benefit of an individual aged 6 to 21 who has suffered a traumatic brain injury. This scholarship is generously provided by the J Field Foundation. An application form for the J Field Foundation scholarship can be requested by sending an email to scholarships@windrushfarm.org. Researcher is Shaping the Future of Technology
A UMass Lowell professor has won two U.S. Department of Energy grants totaling $1.8 million to fund research to spur advances in everything from information processing to our understanding of gravity and cosmic evolution. Archana Kamal, an assistant professor in UMass Lowell’s Department of Physics and Applied Physics, will use the Department of Energy grants to expand her research into the emerging field of quantum information science.

Andover Novelist Wins Prestigious Boston Authors Club Award
The Boston Author Club awarded local novelist Tara Lynn Masih the Young Reader Award for her novel “My Real Name is Hanna.”
The Annual Awards Program is scheduled for September 17, 2019 at the Boston Public Library. The winner and finalist authors will speak about their work and accept their awards. The Boston Authors Club welcomes all book lovers to attend.
Dr. Jocelyn Duffy Joins Lawrence General Hospital’s Primary Care Practice 
Lawrence General Hospital welcomes board-certified family physician Jocelyn Duffy, MD, to its primary care team at Community Medical Associates (CMA). As of Tuesday, September 3, she will serve patients as a primary care physician at CMA’s Andover/North Andover YMCA location in Andover, Mass. Duffy, a Boxford resident, specializes in family medicine for children and adults over the age of six. She has practiced in family care for over 30 years and looks forward to her new affiliation with Lawrence General. She is currently accepting new patients.
Home Health Foundation Names Dianne Farraher-Smith as Chief Clinical Integration Officer
Diane Farraher-Smith, MSN, MBA, RN, joins the Home Health Foundation (HHF) Executive Management Committee (EMC) as chief clinical integration officer.
In this newly developed position, Diane will be responsible for the successful and complete integration of home health and hospice services within the Wellforce System to create a cohesive whole that delivers responsive, reliable and evidence-based clinical services efficiently and cost-effectively.
