Lowell City Council Names Official City Magician

At the Oct. 8 city council meeting, Lowell’s Mayor presented a proclamation officially designating Henri Marchand as the city’s official magician. The proclamation followed on a motion by Councilor Vesna Nuon at a previous council meeting to designate Marchand as Lowell’s magician.

Marchand, who serves as director of cultural affairs and special events for the city, has been performing magic since his early teens. He has performed for guests at the city hall annual holiday reception since 2012.

“I am honored that Councilor Nuon, Mayor Samaras and the entire city council have deemed my conjuring worthy of recognition with this designation,” said Marchand, adding, “We all need a bit of magic now and then and I appreciate the opportunity to create moments of wonder for the community.”

Fulcrum Associates, a leading construction management firm in southern New Hampshire, recently raised $22,000 (the equivalent of 44,000 meals) to support the New Hampshire Food Bank, a program of Catholic Charities New Hampshire, during its third annual Charity Golf Classic. The tournament, held at the Wentworth by the Sea Country Club in Rye on Sept. 17, raised funds to support the New Hampshire Food Bank’s mission of providing nutritious food to the one in nine New Hampshire residents who are food insecure.

As the only food bank in the state, the New Hampshire Food Bank, which receives no state or federal funding for food distribution, delivers nutritious food to partner agencies statewide, including food pantries, soup kitchens, after-school programs, senior centers and other nonprofit programs. Last year, the New Hampshire Food Bank distributed more than 14 million pounds of food to its partners statewide.
