Vast! Mad! Striving!: Kerouac’s Lowell Today
Mary Hart is pleased to announce an art exhibit at Lowell Telecommunications Corp. The exhibit runs from October 4 through November 23, 2017 with an opening reception on Friday, October 6 from 5:30 to 8 PM at LTC.
Throughout his lifetime, Jack Kerouac’s years in Lowell colored his writing. Born to an immigrant family of French Canadians, he grew up in the teeming churn of this riverside factory town–absorbing and reflecting the cultural mix: his family’s devout Catholicism, hardscrabble mill workers, big city crooks and characters, and school chums’ capers, careening off the bricked streets and riverways, ways, which he evoked in memorable stream of consciousness phrases in many of his novels.
