Fri | 12 | String Project Spring Showcase, Durgin Concert Hall, 7:00pm.

Fri | 12 | Songwriting Ensemble/Mixed Chamber Concert, Fischer Recital Hall, 8:00pm. The Songwriting Ensemble will be playing original rock, folk and R&B songs by UML students, and the Mixed Chamber Arranging Ensemble will perform arrangements of music by Peter Gabriel, Radiohead, The Police, The Beach Boys, Tame Impala and Kate Bush. Sat | 13 | cNAfME Composer’s Festival, Fischer Recital Hall, 7:30pm. The new composer festival is an annual event held at UMass Lowell. The aim of the festival is to celebrate young composers and musicians. Each year students from kindergarten to college submit compositions to be reviewed by a panel of judges. 5 compositions are chosen and will be performed at our festival concert. Free and open to the public.

Sun | 14 | Senior Recital, Kelly Bray, Trumpet, Fischer Recital Hall, 7:00pm. Join Kelly Bray for her Senior Trumpet Recital, put on in completion of her undergraduate degree in Music Performance. The program will feature original compositions and interpretations, as well as works by Arthur Honegger, Thom Yorke, Pat Metheny, Ibrahim Maalouf, and more. Reception to follow.

Tue | 16 | Percussion Ensemble Concert, Durgin Concert Hall, 8:00pm. Jeff Fischer directs. The Percussion Ensemble performs the iconic composition Ionisation (1931) by Edgar Varese. Frank Zappa often claimed that Ionisation inspired him to pursue a career in music and was the first album he ever purchased. The program also features works by Frank Zappa, John Cage and more.Jeff Fischer directs.

Thu | 18 | Jazz, Rock, Big Band Concert, Durgin Concert Hall, 8:00pm. UMass Lowell’s Jazz Rock Big Band (which also performs as the Pep Band for UML’s Division I hockey). Dan Lutz, Director, Deb Huber Associate Director.

Wed | 24 | Percussion Ensemble for Non-Percussionists, Durgin Concert Hall, 8:00pm. Non-Perc performs a new work by Prof. Andrew Fordyce, an original composition, based on traditional Haitian music, by Daniel Prophete, Implicit Demand for Proof by Twenty One Pilots arranged by Taylor Trussell, the classic Music for Pieces of Wood by Steve Reich and more! Jeff Fischer directs.

Wed | 24 | Mixed Chamber Ensemble, Fisher Recital Hall, 8:00pm. Blair Bettencourt directs a classical chamber music program with various combinations including flute choir, saxophone quartet, two clarinet trios, and a low brass trio.

Sat | 27 | Senior Recital, Kathryn Herrmann, Voice, Fischer Recital Hall, 2:00pm. Soprano Katie Herrmann offers an evening of music history’s greatest hits from Hildegard to Sondheim.

Sat | 27 | Opera Workshop Production, Fisher Recital Hall, 8:00pm. Two children lost in the wood – and saved by good! The UML Opera Workshop will be presenting scenes from opera fairytales including: Hansel and Gretel, The Fairy Queen, Cinderella, and more. Directed by Janice Giampa and Elaine Purcell Smith.

Sun | 28 | Opera Workshop Production, Fisher Recital Hall, 3:00pm. Repeat of Friday’s production with an alternate cast. Directed by Janice Giampa and Elaine Purcell Smith.
