Take the Plunge

Your Four-Season Backyard Oasis Awaits
You don’t need to bring all of your celebrations indoors just because the weather is cooling down. A little reworking of your outdoor space, plus a warm new addition, can create opportunities for cozy evenings in the backyard.
The owners of this lovely outdoor patio space in Reading got their inspiration from an unanticipated source: the COVID-19 pandemic. After adjusting to increased time at home, they wanted to create a comfortable open-air area on their property that would add more entertainment space as they were forced to hunker down.
In the warmer months, the pool was a key factor in the renovation. But the family also wanted to enjoy it on brisk days in the fall and winter, so it’s equipped with a heater that can warm the water to 104 degrees, allowing the family to soak and swim year-round, even during New England snowstorms.
The renovation project, which began last April, took about four months to complete, beginning with the installation of the pool and finishing with the stonework around the pool and patio. The space — furnished with comfortable, modern patio furniture, decorative accent pillows and festive decor — is ideal for entertaining guests and private lounging.
