ONE: Don’t miss The Brush Art Gallery’s annual quilt exhibition: Setting Sail. This exhibit showcases quilts inspired by the idea of setting sail: starting a journey, revisiting a favorite trip you took, imagining one you are planning, or simply enjoying the sea and sailboats. TWO: TONIGHT! Tonight’s Lowell Summer Music Series performer is one described as “an unfettered, blissful performer, singing with a blue-collared spirit over the bone-deep grooves of his compositions.” JJ Grey and Mofro are a southern soul-rock band from Florida, responsible for hits like “The Sun is Shining Down” and “Brighter Days.” The show starts at 7:30 p.m. at Boarding House Park. THREE: Spend an afternoon checking out cars at Tuscan Village during the free Italian Car Show this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The show, “Concorso Italiano” will not only feature tons of exotic cars from famous manufacturers across the globe, but food and live music. Visit here to learn more.
FOUR: Head over to Newburyport’s Maudslay Arts Center to watch The Bobby Keyes Trio Perform live. Guitarist Bobby Keyes boasts a diverse career that ranges from American roots to pop music, and he has performed with artists such as Jerry Lee Lewis and Robin Thicke. FIVE: Enjoy an evening outdoors listening to the soundtracks from your favorite movies. This Friday, the New England Film Orchestra will perform in the Stevens-Coolidge Gardens in North Andover for a serene summer picnic concert. Listen to music from favorites such as Harry Potter, Star Wars, The Avengers, while surrounded by flowers and enjoying food and beverages from local vendors. SIX: Experience beautiful photography firsthand at the Newburyport Art Association’s new exhibit Music for the Eyes. This annual photography interest group summer show features180 works from 39 photographers. Entries fall into categories such as land / seascape; wildlife; architecture; street photos; still life and more. SEVEN: This Sunday night, listen to the sounds of summer during the Freddie Mcgregor concert at Salisbury’s Blue Ocean Music Hall. Mcgregor is an internationally acclaimed, Grammy-nominated Jamaican singer who has made significant contributions to Reggae music. He is also a record producer with his own label, Big Ship, and has made it a priority to give back to communities in Jamaica. EIGHT: The latest production of the Firehouse Center for the Arts, “Godspell,” opens this weekend at Smolak Farms in North Andover. This play tells the tale of Jesus’ life and death, with a group of people helping Jesus tell different parables by using a wide variety of games, storytelling techniques, and comic timing. BONUS: Seth Meyers, the Emmy award-winning writer and host of “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” will be performing stand-up comedy live at the Palace Theatre on Friday, Aug. 27. Haverhill Restaurant Week and the First Annual Tasty Awards
