The Palace Theatre Welcomes You
Last Friday, I had the opportunity to enjoy my first live theatrical performance since quarantine. The Palace Theatre’s production of “Nunsense” — a musical comedy featuring, you guessed it, nuns — was a hilarious, off-the-wall show that definitely didn’t lack in the laughs department. Where the theater was lacking though, was its attendance.
Something that isn’t unique to the Palace Theatre alone, many indoor venues and movie theaters are suffering lower attendance rates due to COVID. Although I can’t speak for other venues, Palace Theatre goes well beyond the call of duty to ensure that its attendees are safe from the moment they walk in the door to the moment they walk out.
Before entering, my girlfriend and I were met by an employee who ran through a short, thorough list of questions to verify that we were safe to enter. The question were standard and noninvasive, “Have you had a fever recently,” “Have you come into contact with a COVID carrier,” “Have you done any traveling recently,” that sort of thing.
Once inside, I scanned my tickets using a contact-free process, got a squirt of sanitizer, and the two of us took our seats. The Palace offered plenty of room to space out audience members; even if twice more people attended, there would have still been room for all goers to practice social distancing.
The musical was a great time, and the two of us ended the evening with a couple of drinks at an outdoor bar down the street. The combination made for a terrific date night. We stayed safe, and it really felt good to finally get out of the house.
If you’re concerned about going out, I sympathize with you. However, the Palace Theatre made me realize it’s possible to enjoy a night out and still feel safe.
The venue has a packed schedule for the coming months full of comedy, music and more. If you’re looking to get out of the house soon, the Palace Theatre will welcome you.
And What’s More …
To celebrate their reopening, the Palace Theatre is offering free tickets for the British Rock Experience show, which is playing from Oct. 23 to Nov. 14. Enjoy musical performances of classic hits by The Beatles, David Bowie, The Animals, The Kinks, The Police, Elton John, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Adele and much more!
