Eight Great Things To Do This Weekend – 1/23/20
ONE: “Are We There Yet?” is the first show of the new decade in the Northern Essex Community College Linda Hummel-Shea ArtSpace; it was created by Dianne Pappas, an NECC adjunct art and design faculty member.
Pappas has worked in the Linda Hummel-Shea Gallery since the beginning of January creating this unique and original installation within the space. She uses the signature materials of much of her previous works, including plaster, cement, corrugated metal, plastic and twine, among others.
The exhibit opened on Jan. 22, and it will run through Feb. 28. An opening reception and artist talk will be held on Feb 6, from 3 to 6 p.m.
TWO: Artist Michael Guarino’s oil paintings are on display during January and February at Newburyport’s Carry Out Cafe & Catering. “A Walk Through Life” showcases rich portraits, landscapes, still life and “snapshots” of people’s lives. All are invited to the Artist Reception today, Jan. 23, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the cafe. The event is free and refreshments will be served.
THREE: Merrimack Valley journalist Dianne Sharratt-Steimel will present the premiere of her documentary “Troubled Waters,” an examination of chemical and sewage pollution in the Merrimack River.
This free screening will be held Friday, Jan 24, at Chelmsford Center for the Arts.
The Merimack River Watershed Council’s Interim Director John Macone will introduce the film. Enjoy light refreshments before the film and remarks afterwards from dignitaries such as U.S. Rep. Lori Trahan. Click HERE to watch a trailer.
FOUR: The Mother Of A Comedy Show will feature hilarious and seasoned comedians Christine Hurley, Kelly MacFarland and Kerri Louise, all of whom have battled in the comedy clubs and done hundreds of theatre shows. The Mother of a Comedy Show gets all these comedic talents together on one stage for a night full of laughter.
You can see Mother Of A Comedy Show at the Blue Ocean Music Hall this Friday. Show starts at 8 p.m.
FIVE: In the comical feast that is The Addams Family: A New Musical, the wackiness in every family is joyously embraced.
