Tech Gadgets For Exercise Sometimes Do More Harm Than Good
Runners (along with cyclists and other athletes eager to track their mileage and time) can get all the data they want these days and use it to get faster. Yet, for many, that feedback can lead to overtraining, poor results and unhealthy behaviors. The bottom line, many experts say, is that far too many athletes are overdependent on their devices.
According to the WashingtonPost.com, when athletes rely too much on technology, they often lose the ability to understand what is best for their bodies, trusting the data readout over how they feel. Technology cannot measure such factors as stress, lack of sleep, fatigue, overtraining or oncoming illness, which are important considerations both for interpreting training results and for balancing training with staying healthy.
Science Says Celebrating Holidays Could Make You Happier
Holidays are a time to celebrate. While it may be stressful to bake that extra batch of cookies for the bake sale, cart the family around to the neighbors’ holiday parties, and find the perfect gift for the person on your list who has everything, those who celebrate something are generally happier than those who don’t celebrate anything.
BlueZones.com writes that, according to author and social psychologist Fred Bryant, when we stop to savor the good stuff, we build resilience which helps us to manage stress and the daily challenges that can cause it.
We gather around the table for family meals, invite friends to join in Friendsgiving celebrations and drive to grandmother’s house for Christmas. We know from the longest-lived people in the world that those who put family first and socialize with their friends tend to live longer, happier lives.
