Merrimack Valley Commemorates 2018 Gas Disaster

Doug Sparks on September 13th, 2019

One year ago today, on September 13, 2018, our region was rocked by a series of gas explosions in the city of Lawrence and the towns of Andover and North Andover.

The gas explosions will be commemorated locally starting this morning with a 9:30 a.m. memorial mass for Leonel Rondon, the young man who lost his life. This will be followed by dedication of a city square in Rondon’s honor at 11 a.m.

On Saturday, September 14, a “Community Spirit Event,” with family-friendly activities, food trucks and access to resources, takes place at Stadium Plaza in Lawrence from 2 to 6 p.m. The event is hosted by Moderno Appliance & Furniture and supported by the Lawrence Partnership, EparaTodos, Groundwork Lawrence, We Are Lawrence, the city of Lawrence, the towns of Andover and North Andover, and Mill Cities Community Investments.
