Eight Great Things to Do This Weekend – 3/14/19

ONE: A traditional Romanian dance troupe, Plaiurile Dornelor Ensemble, will perform during a special event on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Northern Essex Community College’s Hartleb Technology Center on the Haverhill campus.

TWO: “Going Coastal,” a series of watercolor and oil paintings by local artist Anne Recchia, will be on display at Carry Out Cafe during March and April. The public is invited to a special reception on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. to meet the artist, see the artwork and enjoy light refreshments.

THREE: Diagonally: A Very Magical Marketplace, on Saturday from noon to 5 p.m., is a gathering of wizards, witches and all manner of magic folk! Come shop vendors on the 4th floor of Mill No. 5 that will resemble the street in a very popular series of magical books (and movies, too).

TWO: “Boardwalk at Plum Island” by Anne Recchia, which will appear as part of the artist’s “Going Coastal” exhibit at Carry Out Cafe in March and April.

FOUR: What better way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day week than by listening to a band who captures the look, feel and sound of one of the world’s most popular rock bands from Dublin? Proceeds from Blue Ocean Music Hall’s 4th Annual Blarney Bash featuring Joshua Tree on Saturday at 8 p.m. will benefit the Salisbury Beach Partnership’s free beachfront concerts and fireworks.

FIVE: The Peddler’s Daughter in Nashua will open at 8 a.m. for “Kegs & Eggs” on St. Patrick’s Day, with further Irish favorites as the day moves on to lunch and dinner – accompanied by musical entertainment provided by the likes of Bill McElaney and bagpipers.

SIX: Lowell’s Warp and Weft will have an all-day St. Patrick’s Day celebration from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday, starting with brunch… and running just late enough to be fun while letting you get enough sleep to go to work the next day.

FOUR: Joshua Tree will be featured at Blue Ocean Music Hall’s Blarney Bash on Saturday. Photo credit: Joshua Tree.

SEVEN: The Merrimack Valley Philharmonic Orchestra will hold a “Magical Music of Europe” concert on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Plaistow’s Timberlane Performing Arts Center. Among the pieces that will be performed are Mozart’s “Flute Concerto #1 in G Major” and “The Moldeau” by Smetana.

EIGHT: The Bracken School of Irish Dance will be performing at Newburyport Brewing Co. on Sunday. Dancing will run from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., while Justine’s Food Truck will start serving food at 1 p.m. – with a menu that includes corned beef sandwiches!
