Eight Great Things to Do This Weekend – 2/14/19
ONE: In Merrimack Repertory Theatre’s “The Heath,” playwright Lauren Gunderson turns her prodigious storytelling skills on herself as she wrestles with how you make peace with a beloved relative who seems unlike you in every way. See the show on Friday or Saturday at 8 p.m. or Sunday at 2 p.m.
TWO: “Little Shop of Horrors,” the sci-fi horror musical largely made popular by the 1986 film version starring Rick Moranis and Steve Martin, will be performed at the Firehouse Center for the Arts on Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m.
THREE: The 7th Annual Loco Palooza 5K & Karaoke Party is returning to Salisbury on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon for another day of crisp New England running and hilarious karaoke. After the race, participants are treated to delicious hot pizza and plenty of craft beer! The race begins at Blue Ocean Music Hall.
FOUR: Join Concord Tour Company for their No Remedy for Love Walking Tour, a trip through enchanting Sleepy Hollow to explore the loves, rejections, entanglements, and scandals of some of Concord’s most famous residents, plus a few you’ve never met before. Tours leave on Saturday and Sunday at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
FIVE: During Romance at the Manse, a special tour of The Old Manse, you’ll learn about the Revolutionary War widow who fell in love with a boarder, the Hawthorne’s honeymoon, the Ripley’s golden years, and even a few romances gone astray. At the end of your tour, you’ll enjoy a workshop on stone-ground chocolate. The tour begins at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
SIX: Can’t get out for Valentine’s Day on Thursday? Atkinson Resort & Country Club has you covered with their Valentine Comedy Night on Saturday from 7 to 11 p.m. Enjoy an elegant three-course meal, then enjoy the standup talents of four different comics.
SEVEN: The Worthen House is hosting a night of Music to Honor Black History Month on Saturday from 9 p.m. to midnight. Boston-based vocalist Eva Davenport will headline the evening with her distinctive blend of funk, soul, hip-hop and blues.
