ONE: It’s Cafe Azteca’s 25th anniversary! Stop by and congratulate Chef Antonio Guerrero and his staff on this important milestone. On Friday and Saturday, the Lawrence eatery will be offering a sample salsa bar, Mexican candies, an anniversary cake and other goodies. On Sunday, they’ll have a fixed menu including salsas, appetizers, entree and dessert for only $25. Commemorative T-shirts will be available for sale during the weekend celebrations as well.
TWO: Grab your Mickey ears and get ready for the ultimate Disney experience as “Disney On Ice Celebrates 100 Years of Magic” comes skating into the SNHU Arena on Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m.; Saturday at 10:30 a.m., 2:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.; and Sunday at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
THREE: Frances Hodgson Burnett’s beloved Victorian classic, “The Secret Garden,” will come to life in Marsha Norman and Lucy Simon’s enchanting musical at the Palace Theatre this weekend. Head over for a performance on Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 2 and 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday at 2 p.m.
FOUR: The next show in Umbrella Performing Arts’ 2018-19 season is the rollicking rock musical “Hedwig & the Angry Inch” on Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 6 p.m. The groundbreaking smash by John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask tells the story of “internationally ignored song stylist” Hedwig Schmidt, a fourth-wall smashing East German rock ‘n’ roll goddess who also happens to be the victim of a botched sex-change operation.
FIVE: Firehouse Center for the Arts’ 17th Annual New Works Festival features the new work of 18 playwrights, brought to life on the Newburyport theater’s stage through the talent of 18 directors and many brilliant actors. The festival begins this weekend on Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and continues next weekend.
SIX: Shop the area’s most peculiar vendors at Mill No. 5’s The Oddity Marketplace on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. This shopping experience will surely delight collectors of interesting curiosities — and while you’re there, you can enjoy browsing the mill’s regular stores and a cup of joe at Coffee and Cotton.
SEVEN: Bring the kids over to the Blue Ocean Event Center on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for a Frozen Brunch + Skating Party. The event includes a breakfast buffet, plenty of photo opportunities, special visits from the Snow Queen and more.
EIGHT: Newburyport’s Anchor Stone Deck Pizza will hold its second Pizza, Pints and Paint event on Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. Enjoy local craft beer and wine with endless pizza as you create a visual masterpiece. This time, the theme will be “New England sports.”
