Eight Great Things to Do This Weekend – 12/27/18

This week’s Eight Great has many events outside of our usual Friday, Saturday and Sunday window to give you some of our top picks for celebrating the New Year in style in the Merrimack Valley!

ONE: Chelmsford Public Library will hold its annual tradition, the Winter Wonderland Cupcake Wars, from 2 to 3 p.m. on Friday. Drop in and bring your top game to the competition or just have fun! Even if you have food allergies or dietary restrictions, you can email the library ahead of time to make substitutions so you can participate.

TWO: Pizzastock 2.5, a fundraising event held in memory of Jason Flood of Derry, N.H, and presented by Tupelo Music Hall, will be held on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. A “battle of the bands” event will feature house band Turner, with four local acts taking the stage for the main showdown. The event provides community nonprofits a forum to openly discuss mental health issues and suicide prevention.

THREE: Cobblestones of Lowell will host their usual slate of fantastic New Year Celebrations: a New Year’s Eve “Eve” Brunch on Sunday, a New Year’s Eve Dinner on Monday and New Year’s Day Lunch and Dinner on Tuesday. Make reservations online or over the phone at (978) 970-2282.

TWO: Eat pizza, enjoy a battle of the bands and support suicide prevention efforts at Pizzastock 2.5 this Sunday.

FOUR: Blue Ocean Music Hall’s annual New Year’s Eve Bash will once again feature The Fools along with a dinner buffet, champagne toast, party favors and midnight balloon drop. You can buy a ticket for the show by itself starting on Monday at 9 p.m., or one for the whole shebang beginning at 7 p.m.

FIVE: Ring in the New Year at Warp & Weft with dinner, drinks and dancing! The doors open on Monday at 7 p.m. for dinner – and reservations in advance are highly recommended! Then, join the party at 10 p.m. featuring some of your favorite local musicians.

SIX: Ring in the New Year with Willow Spring Vineyards at their NYE Grilled Cheese Extravaganza from 7 p.m. on Monday to 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Leave your fancy cocktail attire at home for this event, where you’ll enjoy a casual make-your-own grilled cheese buffet with all the fixins – along with games galore!

FIVE: Dance the night away at Warp & Weft’s New Year celebrations starting Monday night.

SEVEN: The Poynt Newburyport will hold a New Year’s Eve Speakeasy from 4 p.m. on Monday to 1 a.m. on Tuesday. Put on your best 1920s attire and join the restaurant for creative themed cocktails, complimentary late night food and a glass of bubbly to toast at midnight.

EIGHT: Dine, drink and dance your way into 2019 at NoLo Bistro & Bar’s extravagant NYE Party and Buffet from Monday at 7 p.m. to Tuesday at 3 a.m. Selections from the buffet include clam chowder, Caesar salad, a sirloin carving station, seafood Newburg, duck cassoulet, a selection of meats and cheeses, and a whole lot more!
