Eight Great Things to Do This Weekend – 12/6/18
ONE: Haverhill’s Christmas Stroll will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday in downtown Haverhill. The event will include family friendly activities including cookie decorating, ornament making, and live music with performances by local artists.
TWO: Once again, Northern Essex Community College will present the Charles Dickens classic “A Christmas Carol” at the college’s Haverhill campus on Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 3 and 7 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. Keep an eye out: mvm writer and NECC professor Sarah Courchesne is playing Mrs. Cratchit.
THREE: This weekend is your last chance to attend the Methuen Festival of Trees. If you haven’t made the trip out to 13 Branch Street yet, head over on Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. or Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. to enjoy raffles, shopping, treats from the cafe and more.
FOUR: The Whistler House Museum of Art will host their annual Whistler Holiday Party on Friday starting at 6:30 p.m. Attendees will be able to enjoy live and silent auctions, live music and entertainment to support children’s art programs and continued restoration of the museum’s historic house.
FIVE: Merrimack Repertory Theatre will celebrate the holidays with the imaginative and radiant “Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley,” a sequel to Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice,” on Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. The play has been called “a celebration of nerd love in all its overeducated glory” by the Chicago Tribune.
SIX: Island Street Studios’ last open studio event of the year will be their Holiday Open Studios on Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. Participants can get some holiday shopping done at vendors including Naturally You Artisan Soap and SoyYo Candles while enjoying live entertainment provided by Lawrence in Harmony.
SEVEN: Trying to finish up your holiday shopping? You may want to check out the Made in New England Expo 2018 at the DoubleTree Manchester Downtown from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The event features unique gifts, specialty food items and other products from all over the region.
EIGHT: Join Western Avenue Studios for their Holiday Open Studios on Saturday or Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Purchase some hand-crafted gifts at reasonable prices and have a conversation with the artists who put them together.
