Eight Great Things to Do This Weekend – 4/26/18
ONE: Join us for a celebration of and by collegiate musicians from Merrimack College and student music groups from other invited institutions at Merrimack Music Jam Weekend III. Mackapella’s 3rd Annual Intercollegiate A Cappella Invitational is on Friday, Concert Band and Concert Choir Spring Performance is on Saturday and An Evening of Jazz with the Merrimack Jazz Ensemble is on Sunday.
TWO: Association of Chelmsford A Cappella will hold a fundraising event, titled “ACA-Pocalypse,” this weekend at Chelmsford High School Performing Arts Center. This event will feature 13 a cappella groups from the Greater Boston area. Concerts will be held on Saturday and Sunday, while master classes will take place only on Sunday.
THREE: At the Welcome to Our Home Living History Tour on Saturday at 4:45 p.m., you’ll take a trip into the past with an interactive tour of Louisa May Alcott’s Orchard House with an expert, authentically costumed guide portraying an Alcott family member or one of their famous friends. Hear fascinating anecdotes and learn firsthand about their lives and times, play a 19th-century game and sing period songs in the parlor and participate in a treasure hunt, all while learning about this extraordinary New England family and the impact of 1868’s “Little Women.”
FOUR: Merrohawke Nature School invites the public to join them for their Annual Fundraising Auction Benefit at Alnoba in Kensington, N.H., from 6 to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday. The event will feature a live auction, plated, locally sourced meal, and Strong by Nature award honoring Jacalyn Bennett. Learn more about Merrohawke in our article on summer nature camps!
FIVE: Stroll through Island Street Studios and meet some of the studio artists, check out guest vendors, listen to music, and enjoy the community gallery during Open Studios on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. Studio artists include Lawrence Arts House, Progress Clothing, Crescent Moon Healing and more.
SIX: The Westford Chorus will be holding a pair of “100 Years of Jazz” concerts on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at United Methodist Church in Westford and Sunday at 3 p.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church in Chelmsford. They’ll be performing “A Little Jazz Mass” by Bob Chilcott, “West Side Story” by Leonard Bernstein and a host of jazz classics such as “Take Five,” “Mack the Knife,” and “All That Jazz.”
SEVEN: Back for its 5th year, Earth Rock Run is an awesome marathon through some of the most beautiful countryside Amesbury and southern New Hampshire has to offer. Runners receive an awesome medal, free race-day beers, live music on and off the course and much more! The race starts on Sunday at 9 a.m. at Amesbury’s downtown Lower Millyard.
EIGHT: The Chelmsford Community Band will hold its annual raffle fundraiser and spring concert, “Lullaby and Goodnight,” on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Chelmsford Elks Lodge. The jazz ensemble and the concert band will both be performing. Enjoy music celebrating nighttime, slumber and waking, and buy raffle tickets for a selection of fun prizes donated by locals. Admission to this concert is free, but the band greatly appreciates donations to help purchase new music and to pay for rehearsal space.
