Photographers Among Us
Addison Gallery of American Art at Phillips Academy
Now through July 31, gallery tour on May 17

This exhibit at the Addison features photography with a documentary bent. From Lewis Hine’s photographs of child laborers in 1909 to Danny Lyon’s images of Texas prison inmates in the late 1960s, many of the pictures included exhibit a civic consciousness. Featuring iconic representations of the times they were taken in, these photographs were produced for everything from newspapers, magazines and photobooks to government-sponsored projects and even the United States Army.

On May 17, Addison curator Tessa Hite will lead visitors through the galleries to discuss the themes and works presented in the exhibit. This event, organized with Andover’s Memorial Hall Library, is free, but space is limited; those wishing to attend should register ahead of time online or by phone.
