Dan Finnerty is best known as the foul-mouthed frontman of The Dan Band, who cover popular songs like “Total Eclipse of the Heart” and “Milkshake” … and load the lyrics with obscenities in the process. Lesser-known is the story of Finnerty’s youth. He was the adopted child of a conservative family in a small town where he never quite fit in. This may explain his later vulgar tendencies. Eventually, he and his mother met the woman who gave birth to him, with completely unexpected results.

Finnerty has turned this story into “Little Orphan Danny,” a musical memoir that’s primarily a comedy — but one with a real heart at its core. Created with the aid of Merrimack Repertory Theatre’s Artistic Director Sean Daniels, who is also directing, this uproarious story of an imperfect family is one many audience members will relate to.
