ONE: If you haven’t yet visited Coffee & Cotton, you’re missing out on one of the coolest places to chill in Lowell. A good incentive to start going: tomorrow’s Sips & Dips event, where the Mill No. 5 café will pour their first sips of local craft beers and wines and unveil a new nighttime bar snacks menu with jazz accompaniment from Morgan Minske and the Luna Collective.
TWO: Given their commercial inclinations, Green Day might not seem like a band representing true “punk cred” out there to many fans. Still, many young folks had the doors to the punk rock world blown wide open by their 2004 rock opera “American Idiot,” which later made its way to – of all places – Broadway. Firehouse Center for the Arts has two 8 p.m. performances of their take on the resulting project “American Idiot: The Musical” this weekend, one on Friday and another on Saturday.
THREE: The Lowell Southeast Asian Water Festival has been a Mill City tradition for over two decades. Celebrate the city’s vibrant Khmer, Thai, Vietnamese and Laotian communities at the Sampas Pavillion on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. with boat races, traditional food, music and dancing, and more!
FOUR: This weekend, a pair of festivals will make Smolak Farms the place to be for Merrimack Valley families! On Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the LBGTQ Family Festival will celebrate diversity with lots of fun activities for the kids and special sweet treats to enjoy, while the Peach Festival the very next day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. will ring in the peach-picking season with a boatload of activities and snacks all its own.
FIVE: Nonprofit organization Greyhound Options is dedicated to the placement of retired racing Greyhounds in the Massachusetts and northern Connecticut area. They’ll be showing off some of their “sweet needle noses” at Pet Supplies Plus this Saturday during their Haverhill Meet and Greet from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., so go say hi to the good boys and girls – and consider giving them a good home if you’re in the market for a pooch.
SIX: The Newburyport ArtWalk returns to Downtown Newburyport this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Enjoy a self-guided tour through the scenic port town with a free ArtWalk map as a dozen galleries open their doors to the public for special exhibits, artist discussion and more.
SEVEN: Hosted by Invest Realty Group, the 2nd annual BrazilFest in Nashua, N.H., will have lots of typical foods from the eponymous country, a 3-on-3 soccer tournament, and a concert with the Brazilian country singer Milena Cecilia. Join the celebration – which boasts free admission, by the way – this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
EIGHT: BrazilFest isn’t the only gig in town for the Gate City this weekend – the City of Nashua, N.H., and Bellavance Beverage are throwing quite the shindig for brew-lovers. The 5th annual Gate City Brewfest will take place at Holman Stadium from 1 to 5 p.m this Saturday. Attendees can enjoy handcrafted beer, an art battle, a wing competition between local restaurants and live music, games and entertainment for all ages!
EXTRA: Mill 77 Vintage Trading Company is holding their Mill Fest Vintage Marketplace 2017 this Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. With vendor space both inside and outside, there’s plenty of room for you to peruse a great collection of antique, vintage and vintage-inspired furniture, home goods, collectibles, jewelry and clothing. Admission is free, and the event will be held rain or shine.
