A Balance Between The Physical and Spiritual ( sponsored )
For millennia practitioners of yoga have extolled its virtue as means of improving physical and mental health, and as science has caught up with the discipline, evidence for its many benefits has grown. Yoga students experience increased mobility and strength and decreased levels of stress and fatigue. The word yoga comes from the Sanskrit word for “union,” and it is a technique to connect mind with body. The results can be profound. At Windsoul Studio in Tyngsborough, Mass., Gail Lachs and her team of certified instructors strive to create an environment in which yogis of all ages and skill levels can experience the results. Having Trouble Meditating? There’s An App for That
Well, two apps, to be precise. Headspace and Calm are both the top competitors in the relatively overstuffed market for phone applications meant to help people relax. Perhaps that’s not a surprise, given the breakneck speed by which our society operates … but then, what exactly do these apps do? “We are … focused on helping people become calm,” Calm founder Michael Acton Smith tells Forbes. “And, as I say, meditation is one way we do that, but we have nature scenes and you can listen to nature videos, you can listen to audio that helps you relax. We [also] launched something a few months ago, that’s been a huge success, called Sleep Stories, which are stories you listen to to help you fall asleep at night; so, like a bedtime story for grown ups.” If you’re having trouble relaxing, might want to consider giving either app a shot; both are free and available on both iOS and Android.
British Woman Eats Curry Ingredients Regularly, Kicks Cancer’s Butt
Of course, nothing’s to say that these results can be easily duplicated, but it’s a fascinating case nonetheless. According to UK tabloid The Sun, Dieneke Ferguson consumed regular amounts of curcumin, “a key component of the spice turmeric,” after stem cell therapy failed to help her with her diagnosis of myeloma (blood cancer). If you’re anything like us, you don’t need another excuse to eat curry … but if you’re a more squeamish eater, here’s a good reason to dig into any number of the delicious Eastern dishes using this popular spice.
