( sponsored ) For the price of $15, participants in the 14th Annual Newburyport Chocolate Tour can visit local businesses and search for chocolates and chocolate-based treats, including the occasional cocktail for adult tour-goers. Proceeds benefit four area charities: The Salisbury build of Habitat for Humanity, the MSPCA at Nevins Farm, Kids as Peacemakers and area prescription refill programs for seniors.
“We’re all kids at heart,” Diane Hawkins-Clark says of the event. She has participated since its earliest days when the tour was a fundraiser for the American Red Cross. When that organization moved its headquarters out of the region, dedicated local volunteers saw the opportunity and decided to continue the tradition.
Over 22 businesses, including The Black Duck Market & Deli, Port Plums Culinary Goods & Olive Oil and Vaalbara Handbag Supply, lend their support as stations for chocolate-hungry walkers. New businesses this year include Piper & Chloe, Pam Older Designs and Coast & Country Boutique.
The tour includes visits to Newburyport shops and is staffed by volunteers. Many of the volunteers find themselves returning year after year and are drawn by the family-friendly experience as well as the promise of helping their community. If you’re interested in joining them, email Hawkins-Clark at email@example.com. Tickets may be purchased in advance at numerous locations or with cash or check on the day of the event.
