Bridal Guide 2011 – Brookstone Park Event Center

A Wedding World All to Yourself:
When it comes to your wedding day, nothing is worse than sharing your venue with another bridal party. You want your special day to feel like it’s all about you, and that is the philosophy at Brookstone Park in Derry, N.H.

“Our facility has an elegant, sophisticated setting,” said Alex van den Broek, Brookstone Park’s general manager of events. “It’s like downtown Boston meets southern New Hampshire charm.”

Although located on busy Route 111, the building is tucked behind the trees making it feel like a different world. Manicured grounds wind around ponds and quaint landscaping. A golf course, driving range, restaurant and even an ice cream parlor complete the charmingly quiet grounds — ideal for a New England wedding.

Since opening more than five years ago, Brookstone Park has become a popular bridal destination, hosting 60 to 70 weddings each year. “Our mission is to provide a private setting and help our brides through their big day with an eye on all the details,” van den Broek said.

Those details come in one great package — including the menu and venue all in one price. The grand ballroom seats up to 200 people and opens onto a terrace complete with a giant white tent that overlooks the picturesque trees that line the pond. An elegant fountain in the middle of that pond is lit at night. For those who want to say “I do” at Brookstone Park, the ceremony is usually held on the terrace.

As for the food, it’s all about quality and experience at this Derry facility. Executive Chef Kevin Riley has a long résumé of food and beverage experience. Having worked at the Bellagio hotel in Las Vegas and a venue in Florida, Riley likes to apply his unique expertise at Brookstone Park. “Many places might have the capabilities, but not the passion. If you have passion, you have it all, and we have both,” Riley said.

Classic crab cakes and East Coast haddock are among the main dishes at Brookstone Grille, but as Riley explained, they are constantly evolving. “Instead of running specials, we’ll do a chef tasting menu…the problem with specials is that you often wonder, ‘Is it really special?’” That’s why Riley serves prix fixe samples of all the best dishes that are made from scratch in the venue’s kitchen. They are also evolving their lunch menu and stepping up their game when it comes to sandwiches.

But for van den Broek, it all comes back to professionalism. Born and raised in Amsterdam, he learned lessons that he applies at Brookstone to give the place a special edge. “It’s top-notch service, traditional European service, meaning no coffee cups on the table until guests are ready for them.” As van den Broek explained, in Europe, the industry is a profession, not just a trade, and at Brookstone Park, it is a profession.
